Publication Signe Johannessen & Caroline Malmström 2021

🏆Most Beautiful Norwegian Books 2022: A prismatic collection of some of the dialogues, discussions and contexts that Signe Johannessen’s artistic practice has been part of in recent years. With the help of many different readings and interpretations that revolve around her artworks, the book aims to shine a light on the artist’s exploration of care practices and kinship across species.

The prism is the visual concept for the book: different ways of reading, looking, and encountering Signe’s art. The contrast and tactility in the choice of materials, as well as the tension between different typographic approaches, reflect Signe’s multifaceded and varied ways of working. A custom display typeface was developed for the book inspired by the artist’s way of working with material such as animal bones and hair. The typeface therefore takes on a bone-like texture while the underlying skeleton plays with typographic stereotypes around life and death. 🦄 Edited by Caroline Malmström and Signe Johannessen. 🦄 With contributions by Axel Andersson, Bronwyn Bailey-Charteris, Ida Bencke, Julia Björnberg, Christina Fredengren, Jonatan Habib Engqvist, Signe Johannessen, Therese Kellner, Caroline Malmström, Kristina Sigunsdotter, Cecilia Åsberg. 🦄 Typefaces: Tibia, ITC Golden Cockerel, Neue Haas Unica. 🦄 Paper: 80 g Munken Print Cream (1.8), 115 g Galerie Art Gloss, 112 g Curious Translucents Clear, 160 g Colorit, 130 g Maxi Satin with holographic lamination. 🦄 22.1 × 13.3 cm, Hardcover 2021. 🦄 ISBN 978-91-63908-58-3.
